The Shack Cafe
The Shack Cafe

The Shack Cafe has been a Missoula classic since 1949, when a World War II vet named Axel Hansen introduced a “new” type of dining to Montanans. Located on Front Street, in the middle of one of Missoula’s red light districts and surrounded by numerous bars, The Shack provided basic sustenance for patrons, adventurers and denizens of an active street scene for several decades until the current owners, Bill Warden and Robin Hamilton, took over the busy spot and began to change the menu.

Now, more than four decades later, The Shack is a leader in serving foods raised locally, and offers a very broad menu for breakfast and lunch featuring items we make ourselves from scratch, and wild mushrooms we buy from local foragers.

In the mid 1980s, The Shack left its old haunt on Front Street and moved a whole block away into a much larger space once occupied by the Pontiac-Oldsmobile dealership. The Shack is decorated with an antique bar that made it up the Missouri by steamboat in 1882, antique maps and clocks, brass chandeliers from the the 1880’s Broadwater Natatorium in Helena and many other bits and pieces of Montana past. We offer a comfortable “been there a while” place for you to rest and recharge.

You’ll love our decor, our friendly service and our excellent fare. We welcome you to visit!!!!!!!
